Sunscreen: Which are Cancer-Causing and What To Do?

by | Jun 1, 2021 | Cancer | 0 comments

Today we will talk about sunscreen. Summer is coming, many people use sunscreen. Thinking that this is how they protect themselves from:

  • sunburn
  • the risk of developing skin cancer
  • melanoma

Indeed, there is even such information that if a person is young at 15 to 20 years. At least five times suffered sunburn with blisters. He has an 80% higher chance of developing melanoma. Therefore, of course, sunscreens with different degrees of protection. They are designated as SPF, 15, 30, sometimes 50, which is not widely used now.

Research of Sunscreen

But there is such a catch the American pharmacy company Valisure, which is known because they carefully monitor what products they sell.

How do they do it? They conduct a chemical composition of drugs or other products for the presence of harmful components. And they found out by analyzing 300 batches from about 70 suppliers. That 27% of the sunscreens from all these batches contain benzene.

Benzene in Sunscreen

Benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon compound. It is often used in industry and is a carcinogen. When ingested in the human body, benzene can cause cancer.

It is absorbed through the skin. And although the concentrations of benzene are minimal in the studied sunscreens. However, repeated use and prolonged use, as well as large areas of the body covered with sunscreen, lead to the fact that benzene can accumulate in human tissues. and potentially cause the unwanted effects of cancer.

Valisure sent a letter expressing concern to the FDA (this is the food drug administration). Such an organization in the United States monitors the quality of products and drugs. We don’t know what the reaction will be, but it’s time for us to conclude from this.

Check before you Buy a Sunscreen.

You need to pay attention to the composition of sunscreens. Look for the words benzene there. If it is, then, of course, do not buy these products. If the manufacturer does not specify something, there are such sunscreens where you will not find the composition. Well, then you should probably contact the manufacturer. Send them an email and ask. Whether it contains benzene or not.

Well, what about the whole thing, you say? If there is a potential danger to some negligent manufacturers, they may not indicate benzene in sunscreen. And we don’t have any way to check. Wouldn’t it be better if we gave up sunscreen altogether? Well, maybe, so we are faced with a choice:

  • Or refuse to use sunscreens with an unknown composition. And thus put yourself at risk of developing skin cancer and melanoma.
  • Or start them all the same smear. Apply this sunscreen with an unknown composition. And protect yourself from skin cancer. But we are potentially putting ourselves at risk of having some other cancer.

Decision

I see the solution here like this.

Well, first of all, you need to read what the composition of the sunscreen is careful. After all, even a sunscreen with a degree of 15 SPF already reduces the risk of developing skin cancer by 40%. Sunscreens are a good thing, and you need to use them, and you need to do so correctly. The only thing that you need to pay attention to the composition. If we do not have such an opportunity, then we need to resort to other measures:

  • Well, first of all, do not be in the sun from 10 to 14/15 hours of the day.
  • It would help if you also tried to be in the shadows.
  • Remember that a beach umbrella does not always protect against UV light as it can be reflected from the sand. And you can also get sunburn as if being in the shade under an umbrella.

in addition, you need to use clothing that protects against UV light:

  • wear a headdress with a wide brim
  • use sunglasses where there is protection against UV light in the glasses
  • And there are also quite a lot of beach clothes now
  • swimming clothes
  • tracksuits
  • light long-sleeve suits, which have protection against UV light.

The choice is yours. I wish you all excellent health and a great mood.
